PRESS RELEASE

11th December 2020

Grief Encounter is proud to be taking part in the Now and Beyond Festival on February 3rd 2021, the UK’s First Mental Health Festival for Children.

At Grief Encounter, our free, professional services aim to mitigate against the negative outcomes grief have on young peoples mental health, so we are thrilled to be a part of the UK’s first ever mental health and wellbeing festival for primary and secondary schools, during Children’s Mental Health Week. Without early intervention support, statistics show that bereaved children and young people can go on to suffer behavioural, social, educational and financial issues later in life. Our vision and mission is that every child and young person has access to the best professional support available, so that they can learn to live with grief and lead a full and happy life.

As part of the festival, taking place on Inside Out Day, an in-school initiative promoting mental health awareness in young people, thousands of schools will have the opportunity to choose from an array of virtual sessions hosted by mental health & wellbeing experts, donating their time to run sessions free of charge. Grief Encounter will be hosting two sessions for the festival, appropriate for all ages within primary and secondary settings, focussing on Back after Covid, and how the pandemic and national grief as a result has impacted children, young people, and their school life, and Grief & Peer Support, a targeted session developed to help raise awareness of the importance of peer support within schools for bereaved pupils, and practical advice on how that can be achieved.

Downloadable school resources to support the day will be available on the Now and Beyond web page. Grief Encounter are able to supply provide lesson plans, grief workbooks and journals, along with our unique grief guides, created for professionals and carers, young people and children.

We are so excited to be part of this unique opportunity, contributing to a shift in the way the UK approaches mental health education for our children.
