Jackie and her three daughters experienced the death of their husband and father Jason, in the midst of the Covid-19 restrictions in May 2020. Due to lockdown, the family were unable to hold the funeral they would have wanted, and, over a year later, they still haven’t been able to host a memorial for him. Grief Encounter lobbied for the funeral restrictions to be lifted earlier so that families could have the support of their wider families, friends and local communities. Here the BBC discusses how those restrictions have affected families in mourning, and chat to Jackie and Karmen, Director of Grief Encounter South West, who have been supporting Jackie since 2020.
