Richard Fogelman, Chief Operating Officer of Grief Encounter since 2013, has been appointed as the new CEO, effective from Friday 14th October 2016. He takes over from Dr. Shelley Gilbert MBE, founder of the charity, and CEO since 2003.
Established in 2003 by Dr Shelley Gilbert MBE, Grief Encounter provides free, pioneering services and support to bereaved children, young people and their families. Grief Encounter offers a wide range of services including individual one-to-one counselling, group workshops and family remembrance days; Grief Encounter also provides best practice training for schools, organisations and professionals.
Dr. Shelley Gilbert MBE will remain actively involved in the charity, taking on the newly created role of President, and Trustee. Her role will largely focus on the clinical side of Grief Encounter.
Commenting on his appointment, Richard said: “I am taking on the role of Chief Executive of Grief Encounter at a time when its services and campaigns are needed more than ever. Numbers of bereaved children and young people are currently 1 in 29 under the age of 16, and our role in providing accessible support to them is crucial. Dr. Shelley Gilbert MBE has founded and maintained an outstanding organization and service offering, and I hope to build on her success, fulfilling our joint objective; and working closely with everyone involved with the charity”.
Dr. Shelley Gilbert MBE, President, said: “Moving forward to the position of President, Richard was an obvious choice to carry on the work of CEO, a lot of which we already do together at Grief Encounter. During his time with the charity, he has made an exceptional contribution and believes passionately in our aim to improve young people’s lives following the death of a loved one. Richard has helped steer the charity through a period of growth and change, with foresight and dedication. We are delighted that he will be taking on the role, bringing new ideas and a fresh leadership style to support our team.”
